Went to some cheapie hair dressing place last week. Got my hair butchered. Yay. I cried, I was so traumatized. It looks better after a week though - I swear there isn't any hair problem I have that my hair straightener cannot fix. I want to try and dye my hair a dark red though.... *and cue rant*

~~~
I hate black hair... it's so plain and boring. I mean blonde and brown have the potential to have many varying shades on the one head. Black is black.. unless you're going grey. Not to mention that if you want to dye your hair any color you have to bleach it some what first. Stupid hair. Just another disadvantage of being Asian.
Actually, I can think of very little advantages of actually being Asian. Uptight overprotective parents, black hair, brown eyes, the double eyelid problem (most of us have it - and I love eyeshadow. Trouble is I actually have no lid to put it on. "Apply the color up to the crease" - crease... what, where now?!), short, usually small breasted, I haven't seen many nice noses on Asians.... bleh. In a country where everyone likes to look healthily brown, I am floating around looking like a little white ghost. I don't mind being pale though. But I wish I had options - I look stupid with a tan (or tropical holiday glow heh.)
The only good thing that springs to mind is the red packets at Chinese New Year... which we haven't gotten since grandma died several years ago. So in my world - there is nothing good about being Asian, or being Chinese. :P Everything I like about the Asian culture can be enjoyed as a person of another race - without the drawbacks. :P
~~~
*end petty rant*

Random piece of information I learnt from The Age a few weeks back: People who work in retail, hospitality and customer service jobs are more likely to die early if they are forced to be friendly, smiling and polite even in the face of abuse. This is due to regular elevated stress levels and heart rate which return to normal levels slower than it should because the worker is unable to vent.

And my piece of cheeriness for today:
I saw this on the Vogue forums: http://www.pancakemeow.com/item.php?item_id=223&category_id=45

Subject:Beads and jewellery!
Time:01:43 am
I realise I've been quiet lately. Something to do with not actually doing anything in life except WoW. Not cool.

I have been getting back into beading and such. I made my first necklace which I designed myself tonight: http://www.dream-watch.net/maisfirstnecklace.jpg

I made some earrings which I got a pattern for in a book, and a bracelet that came in a kit (beads and wire and finding) but I left them in the car. :( Pics later.

I am quite into the designs of jewellery I see on Japanese sites.. they're very delicate and feminine, not like some western jewellery which I can't wear cause its extremely chunky and I'm very small.

It's frustrating though, I love those little 3D beaded animals (motifs I think they call it) the Japanese make - but I can't find any sites with patterns on it (even in Japanese. I translated some sites using Babelfish. Shocking translation but I can understand it). :( It probably doesn't help that I can't read Japanese at all. Frustrating :( I wonder if anyone can shed any light? It would be highly appreciated :)

Sometimes I am astounded by just how unphotogenic I am - more so than usual tonight when browsing through my mate Lisa's recent birthday celebration. I hate it when I smile - my stupid small asian eyes go into little slits so I either look a)stupid b)stoned. Thats assuming my eyes are open in the first place, 50% of photos with me my eyes are closed anyhow. On the bright side, there was this really nice shot of the side of my head... my hair looked shiny that night. Yay!

Do other asian girls have to make an extra effort to keep their eyes WIDE WIDE open when they smile so it looks like they have eyes in photos, I wonder. :(

I wish I looked better in photos.

Tonight is the Ahn'Qiraj gate opening on our server (finally, we slipped to like 100th position in handins). Naturally, the people of Blackrock were excited and swarmed to Silithus to witness this great moment in our server history. Here is a screenshot of what it looked like:

I've concluded that having/maintaining a tan (fake or otherwise) is entirely too much trouble. Having gotten brown in my recent trip (not intentionally), I now find that my skin is drier, which leads me to having exfoliate and moisterize far more often than usual. Fake tanners, it seems, also have to reapply frequently - screw that.

Long live the moon tan.

So, I just discovered Godiva is sold in Australia - at David Jones department stores. I'm overjoyed - no more harassing friends/family going to the USA to get me some. I only hope it doesn't cost an arm and a leg cause Dad got some a little while ago at LAX and he said it cost like $20 USD? It didn't last very long either cause everyone ate it and it was only a medium sized box.

Krispy Kreme is finally coming to Melbourne - if you can call the wonderful suburb of Fountain Gate (practically on the outskirts of suburbia!) "Melbourne." It's a 30 min drive from my place - but may possibly be well worth it. Saves me from having to visit Sydney :P Apparently it's free donuts on the day too or something. Damn you Americans and your good tasting utterly unhealthy food. TzeNbu these are the donuts you always used to get right? Any recommendations? :P

Subject:Life in some sort of nutshell - a pistachio nutshell. They're trendy at the moment
Time:01:10 am
So, I was wondering why things were so quiet on the LJ friends front. Turns out that I wasn't logged in. Dur.
World of Warcraft is making me a bit slow I think.

My recent real life in a nutshell:

- I graduated in December. I am now the proud (hah) possessor of a Bachelor of Design (Multimedia Systems) degree. With distinction, mind you. May also be refered to as Bachelor of Bludging... I don't recall doing much work.....

- Turned 22. Yay.

- Worked an assload. Yes, still at the cinema... I got my biggest paycheck from them ever at $1000 - and they'd stuffed up the public holiday pay so it should have been more :D Also reminded that customer service does indeed suck and that I should try and find a job with aforementioned qualification.

- Went to Cairns, Queensland (Australia, just in case any of you have forgotten me :( ) for a week. Snorkelled at the Reef, rode these ATV quad bike thingies, horses, did cruises, bought stuff, swum in the river at the Daintree Rainforest! Touristy things. BF got bitten on the ankle by a catfish. I got bitten by vicious mosquitos. Acquired a tan of sorts - the stupidest tan lines you'll ever see (I have this rectangle of burnt flesh behind my calves and no where else on my legs from snorkelling in a wetsuit, sigh) - but at least it's a tan, right? RIGHT?! :(

- Subsequent feeling of poor.

- Lots of house warmings attended and to attend. (-$)

- I won $70 at a friend's poker tournament thingy - came second :D! (+$!)

- Feeling slightly richer. Bought a pair of boots and a some Levis. Poor again.

- Joined the gym today. Poorer still but feeling really motivated to tone up and get fit. Wobbly thighs begone. Hopefully the feeling lasts at least a year :P I am getting a sinking feeling about it though - perusing the food guide in the paper and those chocolate cake recipes look really good.

WoW in a nutshell:

- Blackrock is sometimes operational. Hamster must've been replaced.

- Quest to regain moontan and healthy radiation glow has been resumed.

- 60 Paladin, 6/8 Lawbringer. Damn you non existent droprate of boots and bracers. Stop with the Cenarion and Felheart already. 1/8 Judgement. Go hat.

- 60 Hunter. Nothing worth talking about except that someone bought me an epic mount for it.

- Guild downed Nefarian for the first time last week. Luckily AQ opening is very slow on BR - which works for me, I'm making a killing gold wise sellign things that I could hand in for shitty things in boxes.

Anyway that's me - special hello to all you folks I've known from SG - Aiva, TzeN, Saboo, Andidly and anyone else I've missed :) And Flipper - 5 year high school reunion this year. Scary, isn't it?

I've finally taken Brenton's advice, and updated my blog when I'm bored. Uni has finished for the year so I pretty much have nothing to do, since work hasn't gotten busy because it's exam time for everyone else (yes, I am still installed in the same area at my place of employment, thank you very much.) The simultaneous absences of lloyd and Dexter isn't improving the situation, it's so very quiet :(

Anyhow, I gather from the comments of my previous post those of you who only have the pleasure of my acquaintance online would probably like to know what has been going on the past couple of months. Surprisingly little, actually. The only noteworthy event I can recall is that I got a boyfriend. And it isn't the Travis of previous blog entries either, but someone totally different. I won't bother with the sticky details of that, but let me just say he wasn't happy at all. If I've gathered anything from my few experiences with relationships, it's this: guys will only like you/confess their undying love if you a) already have an interest in another guy, just to make things a little more complex b) already have a boyfriend. I'm not exactly the type of girl guys line up for (I'm not hot, and not a skank either) so I wonder how other girls who are juggle everything.

Career wise, I am now pretty sure I do not want to pursue a full time job in multimedia (it's more a hobby than anything else.) I have no idea what I'd like to do instead, so I'm pretty much an island in a fast moving stream - everyone else seems to know what they want, and are pushing ahead with it, whereas I'm drowning midstream wondering what to do. Looks like I might be stuck serving popcorn and soda for a couple more years yet. Not that there's anything wrong with that (at least in the short term), but I'd like to find a real job sooner rather than later.

In less mouldy and more politically motivated news, I'm upset the Opposition is promoting fitness tests to increase kid's activity - that's a terrible idea. I hated PE in my younger high school days when it actually was compulsory to pass in fitness tests (particularly the "beep test") to get a decent mark in PE. It was pretty demeaning, since I can't run to save my life, and it did wonders for my self esteem watching all the other kids who could. I was only good at flexibility and strength tests on the land. If I had to do the same thing in the swimming pool, I would have shone, which to me, felt unfair that I would be labelled "unfit" simply because I find running painful (especially on my spine) and that I prefered to swim. Not to mention I would have kicked most of the "fit" people's asses at it as well, in time and distance. There are different types of fitness anyway, so all this testing is bullshit, really.

Haven't posted in a while, work and homework bit me in the ass and I've been trying to recover ever since. Got the C assignment 2 and essay out of the way, thank goodness, but plenty more still on the horizon. I think all this work has made me very run down. Feeling incredibly woozy and ill right now, I skipped uni today because of it. Hasn't really helped very much, and if I eat it seems to get worse. Wish it would go away.

I discovered I've lost my Point Blank playstation game. Extremely irritating, to say the least, I wanted to play it today, but it seems to have fallen off the face of the planet. No amount of searching could turn it up, so I had to content myself with Time Crisis: Special Project Titan. I'm pretty decent considering I haven't played it in ages but I notice my aim with the GCon was very off compared where I used to be. Must practise! I can't play driving games, so I better be good at gun games. Travis and I played Virtua Cop and Point Blank 2 at Intencity Century City recently and I caned (although I shot a lot of things I shouldn't - I blame that on Time Crisis - I'm used to shooting everything that moves, and I'm usually fairly accurate at those sort of games - 80%+ accuracy). He beat me in Daytona though. I really ought to learn how to drive manual in that game.

I want to do some winter shopping - I'd like a new pair of jeans (a dark dark blue), some new casual shoes (preferably black), a new jacket, a hoodie and I have an eye on a scarf from Sportsgirl I really like, cause I need a new one of those too. Probably won't be able to get my hands on everything for a while though, Dad says I have to pay for one of the car's rego cause I drive it now, so that'll account for most of the money I earned during the Easter break. I earned just over $900 in those 2 weeks of school holidays and received around $750, the rest got nabbed by the taxman. The registration bill - $550. Fzzzt. Mai loses. I have some other bills to pay off too so hopefully stagger purchasing and eating less (WHY DOES FOOD COST SO MUCH!!!) and I'll eventually get everything on my wishlist. So long I don't walk into Priceline and see all those pretty cosmetics.

And a very happy Easter to you all. XD Hope the holiday finds you all well and not as bogged in work (paid and the take-home-from-uni sort) as yours truly. I don't have a lot of chocolate, and the stuff I do have I chose when I went shopping on Wednesday night with the 'rents. The egg section of the local Safeway was a dismal sight - well and truly plundered, with only the "crappy eggs" left, as another customer put it. I bought a 4 pack of Creme Eggs, and a Lindt White Chocolate gold bunny. Fairly happy with that, especially since I didn't pay for it :P

I talked to a friend the other night about why I stopped going to church (even the special services like Easter and Christmas - I know plenty of people who go then but not otherwise.) It was fairly civil, but I get the feeling she feels sorry for me because I'm missing out on something she finds very fufilling and enjoyable. She wants me to go, and told me she could never imagine walking away from God. I didn't have the heart to tell her it wasn't God I was walking away from - it was his people.

Life is coasting along fairly swimmingly right now, I got the results of my first C assignment back and I scored a very decent 94/100. Not bad for a weekend job. Assignment 2 is gonna be a bit harder and with my disorganization I'm setting myself up for trouble in the coming weeks. Hopefully I'll be able to stay on top of it all, but it means working pretty hard at home when I'm not at work. Got a 25% weighted bullshit-o-rama (aka essay) on narrative theory, said assignment 2 on C, and the storyboard for video production. Might also be nice to make a dent in the research project for business, and my design document for multimedia. Now till the end of semester is really gonna hurt >_< Assessments are a flat tyre in the journey down the highway of life - stressful, time consuming and involve pulling over into the emergency lane to fix it. :(

Sick again, but with the flu. Not much you can do about that except relieve the symptoms, so accordingly, I went out and bought a packet of Strepsils Extra. It has some sort of local anaesthetic in it to "numb the throat", or so the packet claims, so I bought it. Blackcurranty, and the anaesthetic works.... on my tongue. Pretty much the orginal Strepsil, now with added numb tongue effect! Cooool. Can't say the same about my throat though.

Been going out a fair bit, mostly with one nice guy called Travis. Went to the Melbourne International Comedy Festival on Friday night with him, we took 1.5 hours to get to the city because of the horrendous traffic on the Monash Freeway, so we missed both Lano and Woodley and Scared Weird Little Guys, which we were going to see. We chose to see Tokyo Shock Boys but entry price was $49 concession, way too much for us, I only had $50 on me and I was hungry as well. So we chose to see Punch Drunk, a couple of local people. We had some time to kill though so we went to Starbucks and had a coffee and cheesecake. Spent an hour having a good chat. Punch Drunk held at Nylon, a bar not far from RMIT, was a small sort of gig, but very funny nonetheless. Was a good one hour. The girl comedian was better than the guy though, she had more funny stories than he did, but then again, he looked like a grown up Harry Potter. Close call. Hehehehe. Trav drove me home and we spent another 45 mins chatting about random things in his car outside my house.

It's school holidays now, so no more crack whore schoolkids on the bus for the next couple of weeks. Unfortunately, that means plenty of that ilk at the cinema. I have one week off, and I spend all 7 days at work.....quite nice! I just hope that they'll take pity on me and give me the evening of the 17th off... I want to go to B's party.

As usual, busy as a bee this past fortnight, what with the stupid C assignment and a presentation worth 25% due all in the same week, plus I suddenly get more shifts at work has equalled a very stressed out Mai. Go lack of time management. Time management only works when you don't have a roster that varies every week! Planning - financial, time or otherwise - is difficult when things are too flexible. :P

My pimples are starting to break out again, which is very irritating. I drink 2 litres of water a day, as per recommendations, I wash my face religiously twice a day, give myself a facial scrub and mask once a week AND change the pillowcase as well. I also don't touch my face much (I try not to at all but when there's an itch... well... it looks funny if I twitch all the time!) All should be well, but it is not and it could only be one of two things now - either the moisterizer I'm using clogs my pores (it's supposed to be non-comedogenic) or.... my diet is failing me. Probably the diet, I notice some improvement when I don't eat junk, so going to try eating more fruit n veg and get healthy non fried/greasy foods. Not good for the hips anyway, I guess.

Speaking of diet, I'm rather fascinated by the consumption of soft drink. Fine in moderation, once in a while, I guess, I enjoy it too, maybe every couple of weeks... the people who drink it every day, a couple of bottles a day... all I can think about is that chemical reaction I learned in Yr12 chem about how the CO2 from the carbonated drinks affects the calcium in the bones and effectively leeches it all away (a nerd am I.) Osteoporosis, not just for old women. ;) On a side note, I hear Coke is also a pretty effective cleaning agent, the highway patrol use it to clean blood off the road after a smash, and apparently it's a pretty handy toilet cleaner. Maybe it could be like a one-for-me, one-for-you sorta thing. Now in lemon, vanilla or cherry!

Melbourne weather is retarded. Started off sorta grey, then it pissed down rain, then sunny, then pisses rain again, sunny, then thunderstorm and the drain outside is spewing water rather than taking it in. Hmmm.

Meh, just some random thoughts in my mind right now. Gotta go pick up my brother from his bus stop. Later.

In great demand this week. Haven't had a week in a while that involves virtually no going out whatsoever, apart from work and uni. At heart I am a homebody, there's nothing better than wiling the time away in front of the computer in fluffy pants and the tshirt with the food stains from 2 weeks ago. Except when nobody updates their blog.

I have a dinner at Camberwell later today with Lisa, whom I haven't seen in quite a while. I'm looking forward to seeing Deb especially, I haven't seen her since she returned from her backpacking trip in Europe earlier this year. I'm sure she has plenty of stories. Unfortunately it seems like Cat can't make it though :( Friday night I have a gathering at another friend's house, just eating and being merry in general, and I would've needed about 2 Saturdays to fit all the stuff I would have liked to have done this Saturday. Everyone seems to love it - a workmate's 21st, Cam's 20th, and a close at work. Just can't fit it all in. In fact, I can't fit any of it in thanks to said work. Stinky. Why put me on close that night of all nights! Bleh. And work Sunday morning too, which means I miss out on the site fun day - which is, in my opinion, an odd idea if you're not going to give all the staff an equal opportunity to go. At least they're trying, I guess. And apparently, I'm also supposed to help my brother make some desserts or sweets for some school function.

I bought a white chocolate mud cake log from Michel's Patisserie at the Glen yesterday. Mum has been bugging me to get it since she saw me buy it for my NYE party and she never got to have some (it was at my friend's house.) I open the box this evening and the whole cake is practically gone - $13 of rich goodness, and there's enough for 3 small slices left. Nice, I'd had one piece of the now miserable looking log. At least I know they liked it, and on the bright side, eating so much cake isn't going to help the fat situation, now, is it? ^_^

I have slight ringing in my ears, and sometimes I lose hearing in an ear for a few minutes at a time. I'm wondering whether I should be concerned about this or not, since I've had it since I was a kid, but it's beginning to occur much more frequently. Wouldn't want to start losing my hearing this early in life - I'm an audiophile, and silence to me is a great discomfort in some odd way.

Having just completed my first full week of uni, I conclude that almost all of the classes I am enrolled for this semester count are eligible as skippable material. Not that classes aren't usually so but so far there's been at least a couple of subjects in a semester that you must turn up for otherwise you're as good as dead. Then the F word comes into play - and no, for a change it isn't "fuck" (but close!) It usually involves trips to the student coordinator's office to explain the lack of success.

Today is a fat day. I looked in the mirror while I was in underwear and from behind my ass looked huge and my thighs..... talk about cellulite. The yum cha lunch I had last week and that trip to the dumpling house the other day must be really starting to come through. Not to mention the numerous bread rolls, croissants and pastries I've been getting in the morning for breakfast. "A moment on the lips, forever on the hips." Sigh.

Thankfully, regular exercise is in the works, I am planning to play badminton on a regular basis round at Monash Clayton with some of my work friends and their friends. I went last Tuesday and had a great time, and moreover, I didn't ache too badly afterwards. My wrist gave me some troubles because I clenched the racket so hard but nothing too serious. And of course, the usual home workout dealie - crunches, squats, pushups etc. The pushups seem to do nothing for my arms - seems to be the only part of my body that stays toned by itself, although it might have something to do with the bottles of water, bladders of soda syrup and sacks of popcorn kernel I carry around at work all the time.

Speaking of work, the site awards night was on recently, a formal event. I didn't go, because the idea of dressing up all prettily (i.e. splashing the cash) and the thought of a drive all the way to Camberwell sorta killed it for me. I did get asked where I was - a surprise to me because for one I don't have a particularly close relationship with anyone at work, so I didn't think they'd notice my absence. But many people did because, it seems, I won something. As yet unconfirmed, but since I got work from 4pm - 12am, I have plenty of time to check the matter out. Should be interesting, in any case, since the people I questioned couldn't remember exactly what I'd won.

Read in the paper the other day that electrical devices used near the head such as hairdryers cause brain damage. It wasn't my imagination after all - I am actually getting dumber as years go by. :P
